Wedding Flowers

by Kim Bova on February 4, 2010

My favorite bouquets….

DSC_6990This one includes my favorite lily!  June is a good time for these I think.  She included Starfish ornaments – they were married by the seashore!  Nice touch.  Blush was the florist.

084This was a homemade bouquet for a garden wedding.  Those sunflowers were spectacular.  They had them all over the tables and even gave away a packet of sunflower seeds in a tiny metal bucket for every guest!  The bucket had the guests name and table number on it.  Neat idea!

275This bride had a peacock theme, so the bouquets were very interesting with feathers and other peacock colored ornamentation.  Very unique!  She even had white feathers added to the bottom of her gown.

Do any of you readers have a favorite florist that you are working with?  Please leave  comment so that others can benefit, especially brides looking for a talented floral designer.  Thanks!

Brides Choice Award 2010!

by Kim Bova on February 1, 2010

I am proud to be chosen again this year to receive the Bride’s Choice Award from the WeddingWire Network. This network recognizes vendors that demonstrate excellent quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism, value of cost and flexibility. Unlike other awards in which winners are selected by the company, the Bride’s Choice Awards are determined exclusively by recent newlyweds (brides and grooms) through surveys and reviews.

If you are a bride or groom, check out the  WeddingWire storefront.  There are many wedding professionals, from florists, dress shops and planners that are great at what they do. You can read reviews from real customers to find what you need to finish planning your wedding day.

You can even make your own wedding website to keep family and friends informed.  It is free and easy to set up.  My clients are doing that and having a great time with it!

My wonderful clients, Pamela and Jason,  who are getting married this July, just sent me their ‘Save the Date’ card and it is great!  We had a cold day in December to shoot it, 20 degree weather!  But they don’t even look cold here, do they?   Great job and good fun!  So here it is as promised!

Family portraits: For future generations.

by Kim Bova on January 11, 2010

I would like to share with you one reason why I love my job.  Just a few weeks before Christmas,  I received a call from a man named Tom asking me to created a few portraits as a surprise Christmas gift for his wife.  The images were to include their two grown kids with the family dog, Bailey.  We had a great session and I was very excited to hear how the surprise went.  On Christmas morning I kept thinking about how the handful of clients that were surprising their loved ones that morning with portraits were doing!

The day after Christmas I found this letter in my email box.  It was from Tom conveying the whole story of how it all went at his house Christmas morning!

_____________________________________________________________________

Hi Kim:  Merry Christmas.  I hope all your family arrived safely and that you had a wonderful day.

Well my wife was overwhelmed with the portraits.  I framed the large 16×20 as well as the three 8×10’s.  As she was opening her presents she opened one of the 8×10’s which included Bailey first. Her reaction was priceless;   I haven’t seen tears of joy like that since I gave her a nice piece of jewelry a bunch of Christmas’s ago.  And she thought that this one portrait was it.  Then she opened another 8×10 of just Courtney and Greg, and was floored by how good it came out.  Then I had her open the 16×20 that I framed in a very nice mahagony wood frame.  To say she was blown away was an understatement.    And she couldn’t get over how poised Bailey looked in the shots;  it almost seemed as if she was a show dog air brushed into the picture.

Well, I can’t thank you enough for the photographs, and my wife Angela asked me to thank you from the bottom of her heart. These portraits made for a very special Christmas, and they will be proudly displayed on one of our main walls in the house.  I am sure we will receive many compliments as friends and family see them, and I’ll be sure to recommend you to them.

Take care

Tom

To hear the whole story told by Tom was a gift for me!  I almost felt like I was there!

Here are two of the portraits that I created for them.

I believe that the greatest part of my job as a photographer is preserving the memories of the families that I photograph.  It is a moment in time, preserved for future generations.

Intimate wedding in Storrs, Connecticut!

by Kim Bova on January 2, 2010

Today Alexandria and Jason were married in the beautiful historic First Baptist Church in Storrs, Connecticut.  This was the snowy wedding day that they had hoped for!  All went well besides the weather – they both worked hard to pull off this intimate ceremony and dinner for close family and friends. They are both UConn students and Jason has planned a surprise honeymoon in snowy Vermont!  I can’t wait to find out what wonderful destination he chose.

Here are a few images of the day.

Cool idea for ‘Save the Date’ card!

by Kim Bova on December 20, 2009

DSC_8389

Meet my new friends and clients, Pamela and Jason.  They drove all the way down from Massachusetts to meet me before the snow storm yesterday for a photo session in the freezing cold.   Why? We shot for their totally awesome ’save the date’ card!

The card will have a bunch of ‘paparazzi style’ images of them and maybe I will post the end product here.  In the mean time – here is one of my favorite images of them.

Can you guess where we shot this?  Yes, in Connecticut; yes, just before the snow storm….humm

Newly Engaged Couples!

by Kim Bova on December 8, 2009

DSC_3562 copyIf you have not already, now is the time to begin the process of finding your wedding vendors.  You probably have a date, a reception and church picked out already if your wedding is coming up in 2010.  But now is definitely the time to get a professional wedding photographer.   We tend to book up for next season around the holidays and into the winter months.  So do not wait, start making appointments now to meet some photographers in your area if you have not already.  Educate your self by talking to professionals about what they do, how they do it, and look at their work and ask a lot of questions.  The photographer is the one wedding professional that will be spending the most time with you on your wedding day.  So you had better like them!  Also, don’t worry about price!  Just look, meet, educate yourself on who and what styles you like and then worry about who fits your budget.  It makes it easier to talk to photographers when they feel that you are not price shopping, but actually looking for someone who fits your personal style with their images.  You can do this initially online by visiting the many websites.  Check out Weddingreports.com.  It is a great site to find all kinds of wedding professionals.
