I was a guest at a wedding of my cousin Doug and his new wife Ruth this weekend.
It was odd but wonderful to be a guest, not the photographer. So, I took advantage
of it and did not photograph every single thing. In fact, I did not photograph that
much at all! I had a fabulous time visiting with many family members that I have not seen in years, and met some that I never knew! It gave me a reminder of how important
family is and also, how important it is to capture those important family ties in my photos for my clients.
The Watermill is a great place for a wedding. The food was really spectacular! There were 200 people there, everything went smoothly and the food came out on time cooked to perfection. The ceremony took place there too. I was very impressed with the whole organization, how helpful the staff was and how everything seemed to go perfectly.
Here is a fun shot from the reception. Here is my husband Peter in the center with my two very special cousins Stewart and Dana.

It is no accident that the early Egyptians built the Great Sphinx so that it points directly toward the rising Sun on the day of the vernal equinox.
Day and Night are equal.
It is time to reflect on new beginnings.
Time for me to go listen to “The Rite of Spring” by Igor Stravinsky.
Thanks for checking in on my blog.

My kids told me today how much they love living in our town of Mansfield, and in Connecticut! Wow! I actually love it as well. Sunday, our dog Roxy went tearing across the street after something. It turned out to be another dog friend of hers (Pecan -such a nice fellow) and our neighbors who were hauling the fresh maple syrup
back to their house to boil it down into syrup. The boys went to retrieve the dog and instead, helped them haul the buckets and learned about making syrup. They said they
tasted it right from the tree! Pure maple sap! Wow, was it good. No wonder they love Connecticut!
Well, I love Connecticut for the photography that I do. From Connecticut’s nature to Connecticut weddings. I once lived in California – Santa Barbara to be exact- beautiful as it was, I missed Connecticut! I love the changing seasons, especially when the season is new – like early spring as things begin to change and grow again. Well, I was born here, so that is another the reason I love Connecticut.
Here is our small container of maple syrup. Our neighbors gave us some to boil down on our own stove. You should have seen how much liquid there was at the start – just to get this much syrup! It could be at least 15-20 dollars worth! I put a pen next to it so you could get an idea of scale.

I am amazed to find that my boys are turning into men.
Another reason to take time and enjoy every moment we
can. Pay attention and treasure what is right in front us.
Time can move very fast, children grow up fast.
I am glad to have been documenting my childrens growth in
photographs.
Here is my youngest – Matt.
He helped me out right before a portrait shoot yesterday
when I needed to test my lighting pattern. I love this image…
I’ll track down his big brother Dave soon and get a shot of him too!
Speaking of photographing children –
I am offering a class for serious amateurs and hobbyists. If any of you are
interested, shoot me an email and I will send the info to you.
It will be held on April 19th. You must have a Digital SLR camera that can be
used in manual mode. kbova@charter.net
Thanks.

Well I must say that I am quite tired of the snow. Those last few days were a tease!
We must have all been thinking that Spring was really here! Check out this fun quote from a letter by Mark Twain to his wife.
(On Saturday, March 10, 1888 a great blizzard prevented his wife from joining him on a trip to New York.)
Clemens wrote:
“And so, after all my labor and persuasion to get you to at last promise to take a week’s holiday and go off with me on a lark, this is what Providence has gone and done about it. It does seem to me the oddest thing–the way Providence manages. A mere simple request to you to stay at home would have been entirely sufficient; but no, that is not big enough, picturesque enough–a blizzard’s the idea; pour down all the snow in stock, turn loose all the winds, bring a whole continent to a stand-still: that is Providence’s idea of the correct way to trump a person’s trick. If I had known it was going to make all this trouble and cost all these millions, I never would have said anything about your going. Now in the light of this revelation of the methods of Providence, consider Noah’s flood–I wish I knew the real reason for playing that cataclysm on the public: likely enough, somebody who liked dry weather wanted to take a walk. That is probably the whole thing–and nothing more to it.”
- Letter to Olivia Clemens, March 10, 1888
Here is an image of the first few flakes to fall today.

By the way, the Mark Twain House in Hartford, CT is a great place to visit. If you have not been there, please go soon, as they need the support in order to stay open.

Hi friends!
I was treated to the greatest day so far this year! This experience completely took away the winter blues. Yesterday, my wonderful husband Peter gave me and my best friend (since 1st grade) Janey a day at the Spa at Norwich Inn! We had a fantastic day of pool, sauna, steam, whirlpool; a gourmet lunch; wine tasting, a pilates class, great conversation, a nap and an incredible vitamin body wrap treatment that I will definitely go back for again!
This was so much fun for both myself and my buddy Janey, and I feel so renewed in spirit and body that I have decided to include a ’spa day’ for any bride and her maid of honor in at least one of my wedding packages! So give me a call and I can fill you in on the details! This place was voted #1 Spa in Connecticut.
I did not take any photos of us at the spa… but I can show you what I did today..after getting my mind back on track.
This is beautiful Horsebarn Hill on the Uconn campus.

And here is a self portrait of me, and my dog, Roxy. (She is the short one with the big snout – just in case you were wondering)

Enjoy the beautiful spring-like weather. Take time for yourself this weekend.. I know I forget that sometimes. Yesterday at the spa reminded me how important that is. Life moves too fast and we need to keep ourselves healthy and balanced so we can be at our best for our family, friends and jobs. And as the Pilates instructor reminded us in class, don’t forget to breathe!
Yours,
Kim
