St. Clement’s Castle right here in Connecticut is one of my favorite places to photograph weddings!  The setting is spectacular and the inside and outside of the building is perfect for all kinds of formal and informal images.  Besides the views and architecture, the staff there is so helpful and accommodating that it is a pleasure to work there. My brides and grooms have all had wonderful things to say about their experience at St. Clement’s as well.  I highly suggest this wedding venue if you can book it.

The Last Shot!

by Kim Bova on November 24, 2009

Here is the last portrait before my Thanksgiving vacation. This is my dear friend, Marcia Bauman, an amazing composer who is just beginning to write for musical theatre. She comes back every year or so to update her professional portrait.  I photographed her by the natural light in my studio.  She is a striking individual and I love photographing her.  I like how her brilliant hair is contrasted with her colorful scarf!DSC_8058

Marcia and I went to graduate school together at the Eastman School of Music.  She is an extraordinary teacher and composer, as well as an expert in the field of music, health and conciousness.  She is fascinated with the way music carries information about our inner worlds.  This is really incredible stuff!

Have a safe, warm and happy Thanksgiving!

The Benefit of Holiday Portraits

by Kim Bova on November 20, 2009

Palmer

The benefit of holiday portraits are that you can capture images of your children at this time of year that you cannot get at any other time.  It was not easy for the parents of these two beautiful girls to convince their youngest, a tomboy of sorts, to get dressed up again this year for their portrait session at Kim Bova Photography.   But because it is that time of year for wearing fancier clothes for the holidays – it was easier to convince them.  We had so much fun in our portrait session, we even played hide and go seek, that they really did not think about what they were wearing!  DSC_8025

Besides, the real benefit is that families can have gorgeous images of their children in a formal portrait.  A nice change from the snapshots that are captured by parents all year round!  As precious as those snaps are,  there is nothing that can compare with a professional portrait to record this moment in a childs life.

Exquisite Bride, handsome groom.

by Kim Bova on November 10, 2009

Here is the last wedding I did for the 2009 season.  I photographed this wedding last week for my friend Glen at Photopros Studio.  I was very happy to work with this wonderful couple!  I love to capture the bridal portraits right after she gets dressed – she is just perfect then! Here is a quiet moment with her flower girl…

I love the images where I can get the bride and groom relaxed and natural, just enjoying their first moments together as husband and wife.

They were lucky to have a really cool car to drive off in!

Father-daughter dance… I like to have the groom in the background looking on…he is out of focus, but I did that on purpose!

Mother-son dance….. same thing, just the opposite!  These are special moments that only happen once…not every reception is it easy to get everyone in the right place.. but I try to tell the couple that it is important to look and be present during the parent dances.  This makes a great page-spread in their album!

These are just a sample of some of the things I like to capture at the weddings I photograph.  I am always thinking about what my bride and groom want, what will be important to them.. this also is why I like to get to know my couples really well before the day..

Thanks for stopping by my blog and website….. and  check out the other galleries of images posted here before you leave.

Garden Weddings in Connecticut

by Kim Bova on November 2, 2009

The natural light of garden weddings can make all the details look so beautiful.  I love how the light here was so soft which complimented the roses and the details of this brides dress.   I made this image recently after a garden wedding ceremony,  just before sunset.  Think about ‘time of day’ for your garden wedding.  Late in the day is usually the best, as it is cooler and the light is perfect for your photos.  You will look your best as well without the harsh sun on your face or on the white dress.
