Welcome to my personal projects page. Here is where I share the projects that are very personal that I've been working on since the pandemic hit us. Using my small dog figures, birds and found objects, I created small table top set or photographs from my travels and add the dogs later. The first three images below were made during the start of the Pandemic - Dark Days and Summoning Strength both reflect my dismay and depression caused by the pandemic. And in 'Spring Blooms', I used my blossoming magnolia as the setting to convey new hope for our future.
'Dogs Night Out' was created after visiting 'Graffiti Alley' in Ghent, Belgium. I created this image of the Alley late one evening when no people were present and added the dogs for fun. I've got more ideas percolating so, check back.
My Dead Bird Project started a couple of years ago when a small sparrow crashed into my picture window on my home and found it on my front doorstep. This had a profound effect on me since I grew up in a family of bird watchers. I decided to freeze the bird to preserve it while I thought about ways to photograph and honor it. Since then, I have photographed a number of different dead birds found by friends and neighbors and plan to continue this project to bring awareness to the 'bird crash' issue.
The image,' Bending Branch-Arching Flower', is my latest work in the dead bird series. It won the 1st place award in photography this past spring from the Monson Arts Council, House of Art, in Monson, MA. Here is the caption I wrote for this image: ‘Life will sometimes bend for us and grant us a bit of grace.’ (Scroll down to view it in the gallery).
* 'Summoning Strength' won two prizes: 1st place award in print competition sponsored by the Professional Photographers of America CT chapter, Spring 2020; and won 2nd Place at the Arts Center East Show titled, "Coping: Responding Through Art".
** 2 bird images, 'DryingOut and 'Reflections Grasp' were Nominees for the 'International Color Awards in 2021.
